Milhanas, a 22 year-old Portuguese singer-songwriter, began paving a path from a young age that garnered significant acclaim from both the public and specialized press in 2023. The artist, who cites Fausto Bordalo Dias as her major influence, earned nominations and recognition with her debut album De Sombra a Sombra.
Considered one of the most exciting and promising singer-songwriters in contemporary Portuguese music, she was nominated for Best New Artist at the Play Portuguese Music Awards, Song of the Year and Best New Artist at the Portuguese Golden Globes, Best Performance of the Year at the Iberian Awards, and the eighth best album of the year by the esteemed music magazine Blitz/Expresso.
On May 26, the highly anticipated album De Sombra a Sombra was released. The album explores the shadows and laments of Milhanas. Born entirely acoustically in collaboration with Rodrigo Correia, it later took on the electronic and urban roots of the musical production by AGIR and Jon.
July is marked by the nomination of Mais Que Ao Sol for the Portuguese Golden Globe for Song of the Year. In September, she added the nomination for the Revelation Award at the same event.
In November, in honor of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, she released the music video for Roubar Um Corpo. Directed by the award-winning filmmaker Pedro Varela, it premiered at the GQ MOTY Awards Gala, where the artist also performed.
December was a moment of consecration with De Sombra a Sombra being elected the eighth-best album of the year by the esteemed music magazine Blitz/Expresso. To this achievement, she added a nomination for Best Performance of the Year at the Iberian Awards for her concert at the Festival N2 in Chaves (Portugal).
Next year, Milhanas promises to continue her upward trajectory, having already been announced on Primavera Sound Porto’s lineup.
